Manzanar Revisited - Documentary Viewing and Panel Discussion

CAIR San Diego in collabortation with ICSD presents "Manzanar Revisited: Civil Rights and Liberties in America." An opportunity for the Muslim community learn about the internment of Japanese-Americans in the United States during World War II, and discuss civil rights issues facing the Muslim community today.

Media Relations WorkshopJanuary 26, 2008 Saturday
As the Muslim community in San Diego grows and develops, it is very important that its members help shape the public perception of Islam and Muslims in a responsible way. The CAIR Media Workshop is designed to provide Muslim community activists with the tools necessary to effectively improve relations with the local media and the public. Using practical steps and concepts detailed in this presentation, almost anyone should be able to build postive relationships between the Muslim community and the local public.

USA vs. Al Arian Movie Screening
January 12, 2008 Saturday
CAIR San Diego in collabortation with ICSD presents : USA vs. Al-Arian screening. The film follows the arrest and trial of Sami Al-Arian, an Arab-American university professor accused of supporting a terrorist organization abroad. For two and a half years Dr. Al-Arian was held in solitary confinement, denied basic privileges and given limited access to his attorneys. A short discussion will follow the screening.

The San Diego Public Library, in partnership with the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of San Diego and Imperial Counties, the San Diego office of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-San Diego) and the American Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC), will host a speaking engagement featuring Georgetown Law Professor David Cole titled 'Less Safe, Less Free'.

Health Fair at Logan Islamic Community Center

CAIR-San Diego in collaboration with At-Tabib and Logan Islamic Community Center will be hosting a Community Health Fair in front of the LICC. Please come by and support. The health fair takes place as a part of CAIR's nationwide "Muslims Care" campaign. There will be onsite Doctors, Pharmacist & RN's available. Services Include: Blood Pressure, Blood Sugar,Height/Weight, STD check, BMI & Blood donation. There will also be a "Brown Bag" project: Bring medications & recieve extensive info. on usage and drug interactions.

School Supply DriveAugust 2006
CAIR-San Diego initiated a school supply drive in conjunction with Muslim Community Services (MCS) as a collaborative effort involving local mosques and Islamic centers. All donated supplies will go towards helping children from needy families.

Safety and Crime prevention in the CommunityAugust 5, 2006 Saturday
CAIR San Diego in cooperation with the San Diego Police Department and Islamic Center of San Diego will hold a presentation on Safety and Crime Prevention in the comunity. The community will have the opportunity to pose questions and concerns to representatives of the police department, learn how to fill out a police report as well as safety tips for Muslim women.

Feed your Community Food DriveJuly 2006
CAIR-San Diego initiated a food drive for the homeless iin conjunction with Muslim Community Services (MCS) as a collaborative effort involving local mosques and Islamic centers. The food drive takes place during "Helping the Needy" month, a part of CAIR's nationwide "Muslims Care" campaign. The proceeds of the food drive will go to Community Christian Services Agency, a nonprofit organization dedicated to serving the homeless and impoverished in San Diego.

Know Your Rights WorkshopAugust 18, 2005
Lawyer Randy Hamud gave a presentation at ICSD discussing how to deal with issues that have come to light post-9/11. Specifically, he discussed how Muslims should not be afraid of the government, but should instead speak up and allow themselves to be heard. Advice was given on several topics, including what to do when law enforcement officials approach for interviewing.

CAIR-San Diego teamed up with the Center for Justice and Reconciliation and invited the students of Point Loma Nazarene University to a panel discussion part of their “Speakers that stir the Social Conscience.” This was an opportunity for students to learn about the Muslim experience in America first hand.

CAIR-San Diego is expanding CAIR’s national campaign into San Diego by collecting enough money to donate Qur’ans to the 20,000+ requests from Americans.
